Our Data CentreThe Data Centre managed by Alesco Systems in Pretoria, South Africa and our servers are housed at Verizon Business (formally UUNET). The network is fully switched and collision free. Our core, BGP capable routers are connected via a 100 Mbit fibre optic cable to Verizon's network from where we have uncapped access to Verizon's local and international network. A second, redundant fibre optic cable follows a physically different route. The reality of the greater Internet is that there is no path of 100MBit to any point of significance beyond Verizon's data centre. Essentially this means that our connection is never the bottleneck and that the size of the pipe is the lowest bandwidth of all the links that make up the connection from any point on the network to our router. Verizon operates the largest global IP network carrying over 50% of the world's Internet traffic. Various capacities to different nodes and peering arrangements with all significant network providers in SA ensure a premium connection. The Company aims not to exceed 60-70% of network utilization and strives to maintain it's impeccable record of non-saturation. The room itself has 2 air-conditioning banks that rotate on a 12 hour basis. The door is bolted across and from above and is fire-rated for 90 minutes. A 40kVA UPS facilitates controlled power supply and a (15 second) transition to a building-wide diesel generator in the event of a power outage. All critical systems (UPS, air-con and temperature ranges, managed servers, etc) are monitored 24/7/365 with notification by e-mail and sms to more than one network engineer, including our Technical Manager. Some of the outstanding features are:
